Showing extra richness and textural weight, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Sugarille is structured, rich and intense. This wine represents fruit from a single site that is characterized by schistous galestro soils. These conditions give Sugarille its heavier center of gravity and its distinguished power and heft. Dark fruit, balsam herb and pencil shavings shape a beautiful and precise bouquet. Give this wine more time to age.
I tasted these wines with Gaia Gaja in Barbaresco (Piedmont) last year, and we had a lot to discuss. The big news is that Gaja purchased a few new parcels at cooler, higher elevations. "Taking a proactive step in response to climate change, we moved up in altitude; and in 2019, we bought a five-hectare vineyard in the southwestern area of Montalcino at a higher altitude of 400 meters above sea level in the area of Bolsignano," she says. "In 2020, another five-hectare plot of land was acquired near the so-called Passo del Lume Spento at 630 meters in elevation. It is one of the highest vineyards in the entire appellation. Twenty years ago, it was unthinkable to plant Sangiovese at this height because it would have never ripened properly. Today, because of the warmer climate, having vineyards at a higher altitude is an asset and can be another valuable advantage. Over the last several years, Montalcino has continued to experience warm and dry temperatures. However, we have been struck by the freshness and finesse that characterizes the 2018 vintage. These are wines that possess bright fruit, medium body and excellent acidity."

OUR STORY
FOUNDERS AND BACKGROUND
Founders Marco Prete and Cristina Fragni have spent a lifetime in close contact with the top European winemakers and cellar masters, and have spent decades on their shared passion for learning, tasting, and even assisting in the production of fine wines.
After relocating to NYC in 2013, they found that many of their favorite vintages were not available in the US. Inspired by a lack of available inventory on the usual channels, they decided that it was essential to them personally and professionally to create a bespoke, world-class collection of fine wines available for US import.
